Diabetes Tips

Living with diabetes can be a challenge. You need constant monitoring and management, along with certain diet and lifestyle changes.

 

Basic principles like eating right, exercising on a regular basis, and maintaining a healthy weight can be equally contributing as medicine in the management of type 2 diabetes in most people.

 

Some common tips and changes that can help are:

 

1. Exercising often:To maximize your workout, try doing it in the morning, and it will help keep blood sugar levels down for the rest of the day. Per week 30-60 minutes will yield you the best results. Focus on your abdominal fat, as it tends to increase insulin resistance.

 

2. Control your sleep apnea: Diabetics are prone to this condition, in which breathing temporarily stops when sleeping. This complication can lead to a stroke or heart attack. If you have such a condition, it is advised to talk to your doctor and manage the condition at the earliest.

 

3. Stress management: Poor managed stress can lead to uncontrolled sugar levels. Try relaxing yourself and do not over-stress.You could do some yoga or deep breathing exercises for the same.

 

4. Avoid caffeinated drinks: Craving high energy drinks or sugar/caffeine drinks can do more harm than any good.

 

5. Stick to your time: Make it a practice to wake up and sleep at the same time daily. A regular routine will confuse your body less.

 

6. Choose healthy foods: The food you consume has a direct impact on your blood sugar levels. Opt for fibre rich and low GI foods. Do not completely eliminate carbs, but make sure to have a low-carb diet.

5. Refined sugar
6. Sweetened food items
7. Processed snacks and food items
8. Fried or salty food
